Tempest Trials

Fire Emblem Heroes has a new event coming out and I’m pretty excited. Tempest Trials is a difficult marathon event coming up that has good rewards like a new hero and orbs.

It’s actually a brand new event, we usually just have variations of old events but this is different so I’m excited. I’ll be staying up till it comes out just to try it

Hybrid Bridal Cordelia

IMG_0585_1.PNGI pulled a Bridal Cordelia and it had +HP -Def which was pretty weird. Not the worst but not the best.

I decided it wasn’t worth going full brave bow build since she’d only have 35 speed with Life and Death 3. I settled on just a hybrid build where she could boost people and maybe snipe a few squishes.

I actually want Spur Attack over Breath of Life but i’ve got no extras to spare. I’ve considered running QR3 because she has 40 life and she could have 43 with the +3 HP seal which would be pretty neat. I had this alternative build in mind which maybe I should’ve done but I didn’t want to sacrifice my Klein for it.

This wold’ve made use of her +HP IV. I actually don’t know why I didn’t do it, probably because I didn’t want to sacrifice that five star just for this.

My current Cordelia I’m not super happy with. She’s a mixture between being offensive and supporty which I like. Breath of Life will actually help during the upcoming Tempest Trials, but arena wise I think the Spur Attack would’ve been massively better.

 

FE:H Season 11 Pre Patch 1.20 Team

I had this sick score at like 7am this morning. I was super proud of it, but it doesn’t mean much after the patch because everyone’s arena score is gonna go up by like 100-200 points probably.

I blew a ton of duel crests on this score too, now I’ll have to do the same or make the best of it with the free arena runs I’ve got.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

IMG_0480Check out the team, this setup has been a favorite of mine.

It’s basically two tanks, a carry, and the bonus unit of the week. I like not using reds because I find reds have been edged out by blues, and now people use greens to meta game the blue usage a little bit.

I tried Reinhardt instead of Kagero but he didn’t have enough coverage. He’s a beast, but the coloring messed up his usefulness a lot.

I just made this Effie last week. I have a Nowi but I need Fury and Vantage on her which I don’t have yet. Triangle Adept used to be the premier Nowi A-skill but Fury is better because you don’t lose coverage to greens and the Vantage part really messes people up if they’re not prepared.

Kagero +Att -Def

My baby. I started putting Vantage on her, although it’s only Vantage 1 she gets to 25% really easy due to Fury 3.

I like Breath of Life. I need 300 SP for level 3 and that’s a long time, but I’m pretty proud of putting that skill on her. I do it because I usually play with characters that have Fury or a B-skill that requires % health to activate.

My goal was to make teams high enough where I wouldn’t fight against mages anymore, but due to merging and fury, mages are still there at high ranks. Kagero though low BST, she takes care of all of those mages for me.

Effie +Def -HP

This Effie is alright. The IV isn’t the worst or best so I don’t complain that much. It makes Bonfire a lot better, especially with bonuses Bonfire becomes pretty monstrous, the only issue is that Effie is already destroying everything so I never need Bonfire.

I had her as a 4* and so it made it really easy to get all of the SP together. It’s a simple Effie build that destroys most.

 

 

 

 

IMG_0477Spring Xander +Att -Res

I like this Xander. He’s a tank and he’s meant to tank damage and support the team. The carrot lance cancels out the fury which I like. Fury 3 is a little too dangerous, but I also didn’t have a Fury 3 on hand too, so it was convenient and made sense.

My spicy B-skill is Drag Back. It’s spicy because most of the other B-skills are meant to help damage or make the unit destroy more units, but Drag Back lets me do some really cool stuff, it helps other units get in range.

Hector +Def -Att

I pulled this Hector like three weeks ago, it was a super lucky single green orb but then I noticed the IVs and I was super sad.

I thought about not using him but I thought I could also make use of him though with his tanky stats. Not as a carry lord but as a tank, and that made everything better.

It’s a basic Hector build. I’ve kept Buckler on him, I might put Bonfire on him but I might just keep the defensive special on him.

Hector was best against blue units and himself though. I thought he was invaluable against fighting those units. He himself couldn’t do it, but without him this couldn’t have happened.

 

FE:H Goals

Because I’m so obsessed with this game I decided I needed structure before it takes over my life. If I’m always wanting more I’m going to spend tons, but on the flip side sometimes I think about how there’s not a whole lot to do and I consider quitting and I don’t want to do that either.

I decided to aim for these few things:

  • +10 Reinhardt – I really like my Reinhardt and I want to max him out
  • Core Team – I want a core team I can take into every week
  • Ike – They say Ike is coming after the summer so I’m waiting for that
  • Goad Teams – So like flier teams, armored teams, and horse teams
  • 4600 Arena Score – I’ve been in the 4500s but not the 4600s yet

FE:H – To Spend or Not to Spend?

This week in FE:H they have four banners and they’ve all got units I want. I thought about buying itunes gift cards on ebay and putting them on my paypal credit so I wouldn’t have to think about paying it off for six months but that’s so crazy.

The gambling and planning is what makes Fire Emblem Heroes really fun for me. Like it’s fun to pull 5* and think about the cool builds I can do. But on a practical level, it’s hard to have time and each unit needs so many resources I think it just promotes more and more spending.

Anyway when I look at it like this, that like $40 or $100 could get me more board games or more video games or more food instead, I hesitate to spend on FE:H. But when I think about the fun and my desire for awesome units then I really want to spend.

I’ve already spent a little bit on this game and right now I don’t feel super inclined to purchase any more orbs but I think it’s important for me to think walk through why I want to spend money on this game and what joy I get out of it. You know if I was mega wealthy I totally would spend tons on this game, but at the same time I don’t know if that would be fun anymore.

FE:H Team of the Week – Anna Banana

Hey! This week I used Anna as my bonus unit. The other bonus characters came from the Blazing Shadows banner, so characters like Jaffar or Ninian. I didn’t have any from that banner but I thought that 1. I already have Anna 2. She’s super fast 3. She might be a bonus unit again some day? Fingers crossed.

I was super suffering early on this week, didn’t like any of my teams and I had a 4010 run I was going to accept but I tried out this composition and it was sick! I ended with a 4524 run, as of right now it’s 3am central time and I’m around rank 8.1k which is similar to the rank pictured.

Nowi / -Attack +HP

Nowi has been my cornerstone unit. I didn’t like her at first but she’s tanky and lets me bait enemy units to their death.

Her build is pretty awful and so is her bane/boon spread. I actually didn’t her at the beginning of this week, I thought about moving away from Nowi, but I think with a more defensive build that utilizes the +HP boon she can work out just fine.

All of the pictured skills weren’t thought out. I threw them down after Skill Inheritance became a thing and I’m trying to change them to at least TA or Fury for passive A. The others might be okay.

I’ve actually got a 4* +attack -hp nowi that I like. When they allow merged units to gain the skills of the previous unit, I’m going to actually promote that Nowi and merge my current Nowi into my new one.

Anna / Neutral

I picked Anna because I thought she might be able to double everyone and do tons. I was thinking of giving her a Brave Axe+ but I thought that Noatun was so unique I should work around it.

Anna was lackluster early this week. I really regretted promoted her. But after I started using Anna and Nowi together, it was a dream. Nowi would run up and take a hit and Anna would come in and wipe.

Anna did well against Hector and Effie. She needed a setup but was able to clear important units for me. I haven’t finished her skills yet, but I’m most likely going to take off vantage for desperation.

Reinhardt / -HP +Attack

Reinhardt is a baller! When I first pulled him I was sad because everyone in his banner looked awful, but I realized he just destroys everything.

Dire Thunder with +Attack and Death Blow is incredible. His raw damage is 50×2, but this one has a +1 attack from a merge so it’s 51×2. Reinhardt deletes most units. He has problems with some skills and some greens, but overall he’s reliable and clears well.

Reinhardt’s biggest weakness is that he can’t go in right away. He’s a carry but he needs the right conditions. If he goes up and attacks someone, he’s going to get jumped and because he’s squishy he’ll just die.

What I also really like about him is that his skills are simple. He can’t make use of B skills very well, he immediately dies to most threats but Iw as going to put on a breaker skill so that he can tank specific units.

Reinhardt just needs Death Blow 3 though + Moonbow. His other skills are irrelevant. I think to really pimp him out though, that spur buffs and assist buffs are useful. Because Reinhardt won’t attack in the first few turns, he sits in the back next to units waiting to go in. He can make use of those turns by buffing units and I think that’s a lot better than him swapping or pivoting.

Kagero / -Def +Attack

Kagero was my original carry. I put her in every team because of her effectiveness against infantry. Lately though I haven’t used her much.

I threw fury on her to make use of reprisal but I think moonbow or vengeance might be better. Reprisal is 10 damage at best.

But Kagero is a cool unit that doesn’t need skills. Due to her natural effectiveness against infantry she’s killing most of them.

My only cool tech choice is Breath of Life. I like it because I want to pair her with Hector or Nowi who                                                                    have HP requirements for their skills.

I think that for her A skill though, Life and Death might be better because it gives her +5 Attack/Speed. Though that means she can’t tank at all she can definitely blow up more units. I don’t think she has trouble with that already though. But I do think that her mild tankiness helps a lot, I’ll throw her against other ranged units and she’ll kill them.

 

Fire Emblem Heroes – Who’s the Beatdown?

The most important thing in arena is who strikes first. Sometimes in Arena you’ll be left with a tough choice where you can kill an opposing unit, but leave yourself open to losing one in return. The alternative is letting the defending team strike a tanky character so the next turn you can pounce and cleanup.

So the basic strategy revolves around, either hitting first or being hit first. Characters like Takumi, Hector, and Nowi are strong because they can bait the opponent. They’ll tank damage and destroy a few units in return.

A popular offensive strategy popped up a few weeks into FE:H, it’s basically Olivia buffs a Nino and Nino sweeps. But one of the reasons why it works so well is because Nino will clear, but Nino won’t be left to die because of Olivia.

The deal with attacking first though is that the player has to isolate opposing units without dying, anything else is almost worthless because of deaths lowing arena score. Melee units have a tough time because they’ll walk into enemy territory, but it’s likely that they’ll get cornered or destroyed by an enemy unit with superior color.

What’s someone to do right?

The strongest character in the game is probably Effie and viable strategies can move from understanding why Effie is so strong. See Effie is stupid strong because she naturally comes with Death Blow, and Wary Fighter.

Wary Fighter is strong because Effie can never be doubled, aside from Brave weapons. Most units rely on their special or doubling to do damage but because of Wary Fighter, Effie will generally always survive a few combats.

Death Blow is strong because Effie paired with Brave Weapon, is incredible. Effie doesn’t worry about speed, so Effie can have a Bane that doesn’t hurt her at all, while also doing massive damage. This makes Effie strong in an offensive or defensive game.

We can use Effie as a model to compare other units by. Will my Lyn be able to attack and live? How will she do either? If my Reinhardt is super strong but also flimsy, how will I push up with him? Should I just have a Nowi draw in the enemy team? What if I use two tanky melee units and two offensive ranged units?

Now there’s a few videos on Reddit about people using staff teams to clear arena or clear Heroic Grand Battles, and that’s interesting right. A lot of people like dancers on their team, it makes the game pretty deadly. But see staff users are super defensive. The whole concept is that the staff users tank and destroy their opponents through health and typing. This all put me on to thinking about, defense and offense.

I thought about how Hector used to be a terror but people know how to play around him now. In fact if you let Hector beat your team down, you’re in good position. Because he’s slow both in speed and movement, he’s not likely to murder your team. But if you attack Hector at full health he’s guaranteed to double.

Arena has evolved a little bit because there’s three types of teams now. There’s very tanky teams, very offensive teams, and balanced teams. I consider dancer teams to be very offensive, I don’t think anything else counts because dancer teams can easily pick off units. Usually tanky teams have a knight or dragon on them. And balanced teams are anything else.

Anyway, Arena is all about surviving. Though you have to kill the defending team, at the end of the day you need four heroes to survive for max points. Some people get there by being offensive, and some get there by being defensive.

I think what’s really important on a team is figuring out if you should be beating them down, or if they should be beating you down.
